- What is an obstetrician?
Obstetricians are specialized doctors who work with all aspects of pregnancy from family planning, conception, delivery and health of the mother and child after birth. Obstetricians are also highly involved with high risk or difficult pregnancies where complications are expected to occur. An obstetrician can expect to earn in the region of US $200,000. Typically training is a minimum of 8 years to become an obstetrician including fellowships, medical college etc.
- What duties does an obstetrician perform?
An obstetrician performs a wide range of duties in the generic obstetrician specialty but also extend to working in areas such as gynecological cancer, prenatal care, maternal physiology, prenatal care, imaging and monitoring.
- What training does an obstetrician complete?
Training is usually a minimum of 8 years which provides the obstetrician with both training in gynecology and obstetrician practice – and is completed in two parts – four years of residency and four years in medical school. Additional sub specialties in obstetrician can add a further four years to the training.

- What is a gynecologist?
A gynecologist practices medicine which focuses upon female reproductive health, in particular related to the ovaries, the uterus and the vagina. Primary areas include the conducting of – ultrasounds, blood tests, swabs test, pap smears, colonoscopy, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and pelvic x-rays.
- What does a gynecologist do?
A gynecologist will typically deal with the following conditions – Cancer within the reproductive system, incontinence, menstrual problems, infertility issues, and prolapse of the pelvic organs.
